SWEDISH COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR ENTIRE SHIP DESIGN AND PRODUCTION

The Swedish Shipbuilders Computing Centre, which is currently performing both technical and commercial services for non-Swedish yards, has four operating divisions--computing, commercial EDP-system, technical EDP-system and general calculation/consulting. Details are given for the Viking integrated design and production shipbuilding system, which is part of a total management information system for shipbuilding purposes. Increases in accuracy and productivity resulting from the Viking system are described. Profits realized from use of the system are discussed, considering costs of implementation and factors which vary from yard to yard.
