SWITCHGEAR FOR SINGLE-PHASE AC TRACTION SYSTEMS

Transformer and distribution equipment for the power supply of single-phase a.c. traction systems has to be designed for a contact wire voltage of 15 kV at 16 2/3-Hz or 25 kV at 50-Hz. A distinction also has to be made between power supplies obtained from a railway-operated high-voltage system and those imported from public power supply systems. With special reference to the 16 2/3-Hz power supply system operated by the German Federal Railways, the author described switchgear for single-phase a.c. traction systems and reviews development possibilities.
