CHANNEL TUNNEL LONDON PASSENGER TERMINAL. A DOCUMENT FOR CONSULTATION

THE PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT IS TO STIMULATE AND FACILITATE DISCUSSION OF POSSIBLE LOCATIONS FOR THE CHANNEL TUNNEL LONDON PASSENGER TERMINAL AND TO INVITE THE SUBMISSION OF VIEWS TO ASSIST THE COUNCIL IN FORMULATING ITS CONCLUSIONS AS TO THE STRATEGIC PLANNING AUTHORITY. IT IS THE WIDER IS- SUE OF THE RELATION OF THE LOCATION OF THE PASSENGER TERMIN- AL TO LONDON AS A WHOLE WHICH IS BEING EXAMINED AT THIS STAGE. THIS DOCUMENT GIVES AN ANALYSIS OF THE 11 LOCATIONS WHICH HAVE BEEN LOOKED AT SO FAR, AND EXPLAINS WHY EIGHT OF THESE APPEAR TO FALL SHORT OF THE REQUIREMENTS. SURREY DOCKS, VICTORIA AND THE WHITE CITY SEEM TO BE THE THREE MOST DESERVING OF FURTHER CONSIDERATION, AND IN PARTICULAR SURREY DOCKS BECAUSE IT WOULD OFFER THE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE OF BRINGING A MOST VALUABLE STIMULUS TO EASTERN LONDON. THE FACTORS USED IN STUDYING THE RELATIVE MERITS OF EACH LOCATION ARE SET OUT AND THE INFORMATION ABOUT INDIVIDUAL LOCATIONS IS CONTAINED IN THE APPENDIX. /TRRL/
