POST-TRANSPO TEST PROGRAM-SUMMARY REPORT, VOLUME I

AS PART OF A PROGRAM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS, UMTA INITIATED A PROJECT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF FOUR PROTOTYPE PERSONAL RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEMS AT DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN CONJUNCTION WITH TRANSPO '72. THESE FOUR SYSTEMS WERE: (1) BENDIX DASHAVEYOR SYSTEM, (2) THE FORD ACT SYSTEM, (3) THE ROHR MONOCAB SYSTEM, (4) THE TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGY TTI SYSTEM. EACH SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED IN DETAIL. THE FOLLOWING TESTS WERE CONDUCTED: MOTOR AND CONTROLLER TESTS, SERVICE BRAKING, EMERGENCY BRAKING, CONTROL LOOP CHARACTERIZATION, STATION STOPPING ACCURACY, HEADWAY CONTROL, MERGING, COMMUNICATION CHANNEL CHARACTERISTICS, ACOUSTIC NOISE TEST, PASSENGER REACTION AND OPINION SAMPLING, VEHICLE STRUCTURAL LOAD TESTS, RIDE QUALITY TEST, GUIDEWAY STIFFNESS TEST, GUIDEWAY ALIGNMENT, GROUND VIBRATION TEST, SPECIAL MECHANISM TEST, CONDUCTED AND RADIATED INTERFERENCE, POWER CONSUMPTION, AND FIRE CONTROL TESTS. THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS ARE PRESENTED IN DETAIL.
