PROTOTYPE SUBURBAN TRANSPORTATION CENTERS. A LOCAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT OF THE NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS PLANNING COMMISSION

THE REPORT ESTABLISHES A SET OF CRITERIA FOR THE MAJOR ELEMENTS OF A TRANSPORTATION CENTER ENVISIONED BY THE COMMISSION'S AND COUNCIL'S PLANNERS. ENCLOSED STRUCTURE, PEDESTRIAN CIRCULATION, COMMERCIAL AND OTHER PUBLIC FACILITIES, PARKING, LOADING AND UNLOADING, AND LANDSCAPING REQUIREMENTS ARE ALL CONSIDERED. FROM THE CRITERIA DEVELOPED, THREE SUBURBAN TRANSPORTATION CENTER PROTOTYPES ARE OFFERED. THE ENCLOSED STRUCTURE, THE PLATFORM, PEDESTRIAN AND AUTO GRADE SEPARATION, RELATED COMMERCIAL SERVICES AND LAND DEVELOPMENT, PARKING, OFF-STREET LOADING, LANDSCAPING, AND COST ARE DISCUSSED. THE THREE ARE THEN PUT IN THE LOCAL CONTEXT WITH CONSIDERATION GIVEN TO LOCAL NEED AND ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF FINANCING. /AUTHOR/
