THE SEARCH FOR STANDARD TRANSIT
Standardization of rapid transit rolling stock can lower construction and operating costs, but it may also impose undesirable limits on innovation. Leaders of the rapid transit industry in several parts of the world show a qualified concern for standardization; rolling stock profiles are already determined by the infrastructure, but there is scope for a standardized line voltage which would widen the choice in traction equipment.
