THE URBAN FRONTIER

THE REPORT INVESTIGATES THE OUTER EDGE OF URBAN SYSTEMS AS IS DETERMINED BY LAND VALUES. IT EXAMINES THE NATURE OF THIS EDGE, METHODS OF IDENTIFICATION, AND REASONS FOR LOCATION. THE SHARP BREAK IN LAND VALUES WHICH CHARACTERIZES THIS BOUNDARY BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL LANDSCAPES SEEMS TO HAVE STRONG SPATIAL TIES TO THE ACCESS FACTOR, ESPECIALLY AS INDUCED BY ROAD NETWORKS. IN ESSENCE, THE THESIS PRESENTED HERE IS THAT A SHARP DECLINE IN LAND RENTS OCCURS AT THE OUTER EDGE OF URBAN SYSTEMS. THIS DECLINE IS REFERRED TO AS THE URBAN FRONTIER. THIS THESIS IS EXAMINED IN THE REPORT AND CONCLUSIONS ARE DRAWN. /AUTHOR/
