THE MISSISSIPPI COAST TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY IS A PUBLIC BODY CONCERNED WITH MASS TRANSPORTATION SERVICE IN THE URBANIZED PORTIONS OF FOUR COUNTIES IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI--HARRISON, JACKSON, HANCOCK, AND PEARL RIVER. THE OVER-ALL OBJECTIVE OF THE TRANSIT STUDY WAS TO EVALUATE THE PRESENT AND FUTURE ROLE OF MASS TRANSPORTATION--SPECIFICALLY BY BUS--IN THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST URBAN AREA, AND TO DETERMINE THE BEST MEANS BY WHICH THE REQUIRED AMOUNT OF SERVICE MAY BE FINANCED AND ADMINISTERED. THE COMPONENTS OF THE TRANSIT SYSTEM WERE TO BE CONSIDERED IN RELATION TO DESIRABLE PATTERNS OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT, AND TO ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF TRANSPORT. /AUTHOR/
