BASED ON A CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY (CTA) SURVEY TO DETERMINE RIDERS' ATTITUDES AND PREFERENCES BY EQUIPPING 2 BUSES WITH THE ALTERNATIVE FEATURES THAT ARE AVAILABLE, A SUMMARY IS PROVIDED ON THE FREQUENT USER, THE MODERATE USER, AND THE INFREQUENT USER. THESE RESPONSES ARE LIMITED ONLY TO THOSE WHO ANSWERED A QUESTIONNAIRE AFTER TOURING THE 2 BUSES WITH ALTERNATIVE FEATURES. THE MAJOR FINDINGS FOR EACH GROUP FREQUENT USER, MODERATE USER, INFREQUENT USER ARE CLASSIFIED ACCORDING TO AGE, INCOME, SEX, RACE, FREQUENCY OF USE, MODE AND TIME OF USE. OUT OF THIS CLASSIFICATION SCHEME THE FREQUENT USER IS SHOWN TO: USE BOTH THE SUBWAY L AND A BUS, TRAVELED DURING RUSH HOURS, LIVE ON EITHER THE SOUTH OR THE NORTH SIDE, BE WHITE, BE 41 YEARS, EARN ABOUT $640 A MONTH AND BE MALE; THE MODERATE USER IS SHOWN TO USE BOTH SUBWAY L AND A BUS OR JUST A BUS, TRAVEL DURING MID-DAY, LIVE ON NORTH AND SOUTH SIDE, BE WHITE, BE 50 YEARS, HAVE $620 A MONTH AND BE FEMALE; AND FOR THE INFREQUENT USER IS SHOWN TO: USE SUBWAY - L USE CTA AT MID-DAY AND AFTER RUSH HOUR, BE WHITE, BE 40 YEARS, EARN $780 A MONTH, BE FEMALE.
