URBAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT - CONCLUSIONS OF THE SEMINAR HELD IN TOURS - WHITE PAPER

THE AIM OF THE SEMINAR HELD IN TOURS IN MAY 1970 WAS TO PROMOTE AN URBAN TRANSPORT POLICY. THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WERE DISCUSSED: URBAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND THE USER; OPERATION-EQUIPMENT-PRODUCTIVITY; FUTURE URBAN TRANSPORT; OPERATION OF THE ROAD NETWORK; TRAFFIC; PARKING AND URBAN TRANSPORT; ADMINISTRATIVE FRAMEWORK FOR THE OPERATION OF URBAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT - RELATIONS BETWEEN THE OPERATOR AND THE COMMUNITY; PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND TOWN PLANNING. THE WHITE PAPER ANALYSES THE PRESENT SITUATION AND PROPOSES AN ACTION PROGRAM CONCERNING LARGE-SCALE EQUIPMENT FOR THE ROAD NETWORK, IMPROVEMENT OR MODERNIZATION OF THE OPERATION OF EXISTING NETWORKS, INTRODUCTION OF NEW OPERATIONAL TECHNIQUES, DEVELOPMENT OF NEW URBAN TRANSPORT MODES, INVESTIGATION INTO RELATIONS BETWEEN LOCAL COMMUNITIES, OPERATORS AND USERS, INCREASED AID FROM THE STATE TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AND INCORPORATION OF TRANSPORT IN TOWN PLANNING.
