TRANSIT IN THE U.S. AND TEXAS: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE

THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF A STUDY OF TRANSIT SYSTEMS IN THE U.S. AND TEXAS. HISTORICAL DATA ARE ANALYZED TO IDENTIFY THE FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE DECLINE OF TRANSIT. THE ROLE OF TRANSIT TODAY IS CONTRASTED TO ITS ROLE OF FIFTY YEARS AGO. PRESENT AND FUTURE NEEDS FOR TRANSIT IN TEXAS ARE IDENTIFIED. CHARACTERISTICS OF RAIL-RAPID-TRANSIT AND BUS-RAPID- TRANSIT SYSTEMS ARE COMPARED AND THEIR APPLICABILITY TO TEXAS CITIES EVALUATED. /AUTHOR/
