THE VIBRATIONAL DAMPING EFFECTS OF HIGHWAY BRIDGES ARE DISCUSSED ON THE BASIS OF RESULTS OF FIELD TESTS ON ACTUAL HIGHWAY BRIDGE STRUCTURES. THE RESULTS OF TESTS ON FIFTY- FOUR BRIDGES CARRIED OUT DURING THIS DECADE ARE DESCRIBED, AND THE VIBRATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS, EXPECIALLY THE RELATION BETWEEN NATURAL PERIODS AND DAMPING CONSTANTS OF BRIDGE STRUCTURES, ARE PRESENTED. /TRRL/
