PULL OUT RESISTANCE OF INCLINED ANCHORS

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF SOME PILOT STUDIES OF THE BEHAVIOR OF INCLINED SINGLE ANCHOR AND TWO-ANCHOR GROUPS INSTALLED IN SAND, AND OF THE INTERFERENCE BETWEEN ANCHORS IN A GROUP. THIS INTERANCHOR IS MORE PRONOUNCED IN INCLINED THAN IN VERTICAL ANCHOR GROUPS, SINCE IN THE INCLINED GROUP THE "TRAILING" ANCHOR CAN OFTEN BE TRAVERSING SOIL ALREADY DISTURBED BY THE LEADING ANCHOR. THE ANGLE OF PULL OUT AND ANCHOR SPACING WERE THE ONLY TWO FACTORS VARIED IN THE TESTS. THE LOAD/DISPLACEMENT CURVES PLOTTED FROM THE TEST RESULTS ARE SHOWN. /TRRL/
