Investigation of the Effect of Stiffness Characteristics of Vehicles on Pedestrian Pelvis and Lower Limb Injury Measures

A vehicle model with high generality and repeatability would be necessary to validate injury assessment tools for a pedestrian in a comprehensive and precise manner. The current study performed car-pedestrian impact simulations using vehicle front end models with changeable stiffness characteristics along with a human FE model. The results of the impact simulations were analyzed to investigate the levels of reproducing stiffness characteristics of vehicle front end structures that are necessary to accurately reproduce pedestrian pelvis and lower limb injury measures.
