DISCUSSION OF ELECTRICAL DISPERSION IN RELATION TO SOIL STRUCTURE

THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY CONFIRMED THAT ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS ARE CAPABLE OF INTERPRETATION IN TERMS OF THE FUNDAMENTAL FACTORS RELATING TO MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SOILS. THE WRITER FOUND THIS TO BE TRUE IN COMPACTION TESTS USING A MINIATURE MOLD IN WHICH THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE OF THE SOIL SPECIMEN IS MEASURED. THIS MOLD IS PICTURED AND ITS OPERATION EXPLAINED. TESTS WERE CONDUCTED USING THIS APPARATUS AND DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF COMPACTION. THE TESTS INDICATED THAT THE OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT OF A SOIL SPECIMEN MIGHT BE DETERMINED FAIRLY ACCURATELY BY RESISTIVITY MEASUREMENTS.
