SOME THOUGHTS ON THE PROBLEM OF THE RHEOLOGY OF SOILS

AFTER A BRIEF RECAPITULATION OF THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF RHEOLOGY, THE GENERAL PROBLEM OF FAILURE THEORIES IS ANALYZED WITH PARTICULAR MENTION TO THE INFLUENCE OF HYDROSTATIC AND DEVIATORIC COMPONENTS OF STRESS AND STRAIN TENSORS. THE TRIAXIAL TEST (CYLINDRICAL SAMPLES AND THICK- WALLED CYLINDERS) IS STUDIED AND SOME CONSIDERATIONS ARE MADE ON THE INTERPRETATION AND APPLICABILITY OF THE TEST RESULTS TO THE ELUCIDATION OF THE FAILURE THEORIES FOR SOILS. /AUTHOR/
