Development of the Traffic Accident Occurrence Forecast Logic for Expressway with the Self-Organizing Map
The rear-end collision caused by congestion is one of the major factors of the traffic accidents on expressways. Therefore, it may be possible to reduce the accidents by providing drivers with the forecasted information about the possibility of accident occurrence. In this paper, the authors propose the logic to predict the accident occurrence on expressways with the Self-Organizing Map which is one of the neural network. The authors saw a positive outcome in the accident occurrence ratio (indicator to show the possibility of accident occurrence) depending on conditions when the authors made investigation by using the past traffic information.
