DETERMINATION OF WHEEL CONTACT STRESSES FROM MEASURED INSTANTANEOUS SOIL DEFORMATIONS

THIS METHOD CONSISTS OF EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENT OF STRAIN VELOCITY FIELD AND CALCULATION OF STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN PLASTIC CONDITIONS BY APPLYING TRESCA'S CRITERION AND TOTAL STRESS ANALYSIS. CHARACTERISTICS ARE GRAPHICALLY DRAWN ON ACCOUNT OF MOHR CIRCLE POLAR PROPERTIES; STARTING FROM CHARACTERISTIC EQUATIONS, THE STRESS DISTRIBUTION ALONG FAILURE LINES IS DETERMINED. FOR THE STUDIED CASE (RIGID WHEEL, SOFT CLAY) CONTACT, RADIAL, AND TANGENTIAL RESULTING PRESSURES ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH FORCES ACTING ON THE WHEEL. /AUTHOR/
