ROCK PRESSURE DETERMINATION BY A STATIC ANALOGY

DERIVED ALREADY IN A PREVIOUS ARTICLE WAS THE LOOSENING PROCESS ABOVE A RECTANGULAR CAVITY AND BY THAT, THE HEIGHT OF THE LOADING ZONE IS GOVERNED BY THE COMPRESSION-VIZ. TENSIONAL-STRENGTH OF THE ROCK-MATERIAL. THROUGH THE ASSUMPTION OF DEVELOPING PLASTIC HINGES, PRODUCED STRESSES COULD BE DETERMINED AS IN A FICTIVE THREE HINGED ARCH. THE HEIGHT OF THE ARCH WAS EXPRESSED AS FUNCTION OF THE CAVITY AND OF A PARAMETER REPRESENTING THE INFLUENCE OF STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS. AN EXACT VALUE WAS NOT GIVEN. ONLY SOME LIMITS AND CONSIDERATIONS WERE ADVISED FOR ITS APPROPRIATE CHOICE. IN CONTINUATION OF INVESTIGATIONS, PROPER EQUATIONS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THIS PARAMETER AND FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE HEIGHT OF THE LOOSENED MASS IN FUNCTION OF THE STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS AND OF THE WIDTH OF THE CAVITY MUST BE THE OVER-BURDEN PRESSURE PREVAILING ABOVE THE LOOSENED MASS WHICH IS SIMPLY GIVEN BY THE OVERBURDEN WEIGHT. /AUTHOR/
