DEFORMATIONS OF ROCK FOUNDATIONS OF HIGH DAMS AFTER FILLING RESERVOIR

CONSIDERABLE AND NON-UNIFORM TENSION AND COMPRESSION DEFORMATION IN THE FOUNDATIONS OF HIGH DAMS RESULT FROM THE LOADS OF THE STRUCTURE ITSELF AND, TO A GREATER EXTENT, FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE STORED WATER. THE FIELD OBSERVATIONS CARRIED OUT ON THE BRATSK HYDROELECTRIC STATION SHOWED SHARP INCREMENT IN THE SETTLEMENT OF THE ROCK FOUNDATION FROM THE OUTSET OF FILLING THE STORAGE RESERVOIR. THE FORMATION OF A SETLEMENT CONE, 2-3 KM IN DIAMETER, AND THE OPENING OF JOINTS IN THE FOUNDATION OF THE DAM UNDER ITS UPSTREAM FACE, AT A DEPTH OF 1-2 M BELOW ITS BASE, WAS APPROVED. /AUTHOR/
