THE SCALE EFFECT ON NOMINAL WAKE FRACTION OF SINGLE-SCREW SHIPS

The resistance coefficient between the ships hull and the water going through the propeller disk area was determined on the basis of the mean velocity at the propeller area. The studies reported utilized model experiments that indicated that the nominal wake fraction of a ship is not the same as that of the model. The difference between the two was interpreted in terms of this resistance coefficient. The relation between the two values appears to be linear, at least for ships with one propeller. The wave component of the nominal wake fraction is minimal. The frictional component is independent of the location of the propeller in the direction of the propeller axis.
