GENERAL METHOD TO CALCULATE A PILE OR DIAPHRAGM SUBJECT TO HORIZONTAL LOADING IN TERMS OF PRESSUREMETER TESTS RESULTS /IN FRENCH/

A METHOD WAS PROPOSED FOR CALCULATING A SHEET PILE WALL OR A CAST-IN-PLACE DIAPHRAGM UNDER GIVEN CONDITIONS OF RIGIDITY OF THE STRUCTURE COMPARED TO THE SOIL BEHAVIOR MEASURED BY THE PRESSUREMETER. HERE THE AUTHORS REFINE THIS METHOD TO EXTEND IT TO MORE ACTUAL CASES. FURTHERMORE THEY ANALYZE THE GENERAL SOLUTION AND SHOW THAT: FIRST OF ALL, MANY CASES OF HORIZONTALLY LOADED PILES CAN BE SOLVED BY HAND BY COMBINING SIMPLE CASE SOLUTIONS, AND SECOND, ANY CASE OF HORIZONTALLY LOADED PILES OR WALLS CAN BE CALCULATED USING A COMPUTER FOR WHICH A PROGRAM HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. THEY FIRST STRESS THE PRIME IMPORTANCE OF THE EQUIVALENT LENGTH FOR SHEET PILE WALLS. THEN THEY WORK OUT TWO CHARTS WHICH GIVE K VALUES FOR DIAPHRAGMS OR PILES WHEN PRESSUREMETER E MODULI, WIDTH OF PILE OR DEPTH OF DIAPHRAGM, AND TYPE OF SOIL ARE KNOWN. /SS/
