THE CAVING OF THE WASTE ON LONGWALL FACES

THE PROPERTIES OF WASTE ON LONGWALL FACES ARE RELATED TO THE QUALITY OF THE ROOF CONTROL. IN SUBSTITUTION OF VAGUE TERMS SUCH AS "CAVING WELL," "DIFFICULT TO CAVE," OR "HIGHLY FRAGMENTED MATERIAL," THE USE OF THREE BASIC MEASURED PARAMETERS IS PROPOSED: THE LIMIT DISTANCE, THE LIMIT ANGLE, AND THE OVERHANG. DEFINITIONS ARE ALSO GIVEN TO TERMS SUCH AS "ACTIVE CAVING LIMIT," "ACTIVE CAVING HEIGHT," "RELATING TO THE ACTIVE CAVING ZONE." THE ABOVE PARAMETERS ARE MEASURED FOR DIFFERENT POSITIONS OF THE CAVING ROOF, AND RESULTS ARE ARRANGED IN TABLES AND DIAGRAMS TO OBTAIN SEQUENCE PICTURES. THE STUDY IS RELEVANT TO OBTAINING INFORMATION ON STRATA BEHAVIOR, NATURE AND EXTENT OF THE SUPPORTED ROOF, THE SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS, AND THE WORKABILITY OF THE COAL AND IN SITU STRENGTH OF ROCK BEDS. /AMR/
