THE DYNAMIC CONE PENETRATION TEST

THE DYNAMIC CONE PENETRATION TEST ELIMINATES SKIN FRICTION ON THE DRIVING RODS BY CIRCULATION OF BENTONITE SLURRY. THE TECHNIQUE ALSO ESTABLISHES CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DYNAMIC CONE RESISTANCE AND END VALUES OBTAINED FROM THE STANDARD PENETRATION TESTS. THE INTRINSIC CONE RESISTANCE FOR A 2 1/2 INCH DIAMETER CONE AGREES WELL WITH N-VALUE FROM A STANDARD PENETRATION TEST. THE TEST HAS BEEN MADE TO PROBE GREAT DEPTHS IN SOIL EXPLORATIONS FOR SOME MAJOR PROJECTS IN INDIA. IT IS A SIMPLE, FAST AND ECONOMICAL AUXILIARY TOOL FOR SOIL EXPLORATIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH A FEW BORE-HOLE STUDIES. IT PROVIDES A CONTINUOUS RECORD OF PENETRATION RESISTANCE. THE TEST VALUES ARE A RELIABLE INDEX OF CONSISTENCY AND RELATIVE DENSITY OF THE SUB-STRATA SINCE DISTURBING FACTORS, SUCH AS SIZE OF BORE-HOLE, AND DISTURBANCE AT THE BASE DUE TO SAND BOILING, BORING OPERATION, SEDIMENTATION, ETC., ARE ELIMINATED.
