A Comparison of Coherent Flow Produced by VISSIM and TransModeler

In the last 10 years, coherent flow remains a hot topic because of its importance and controversial nature. Many explanations have been proposed to account for the existence of coherent flow. One of the explanations states that coherent states can be caused by competitive interactions between lorries and cars. In this paper, the authors carried out simulations to check the relation between lorries and coherent flows in two popular pieces of traffic simulation software, VISSIM and TransModeler. The simulation results show that the coherent flows engendered by different software have some differences.
