Urban Biological Corridor Analysis Based on GIS: A Case of Taicang City in China

Nowadays, the habitat fragmentation caused by human activities has greatly affected the migration and diffusion of wild animals, and finally results in the increased risk of species extinction. The theory of biological corridor provides new solutions to the protection of wildlife. The species movement resistance surface was built after identifying the resistance value of different types of land in Taicang city. Then this research simulates the potential biological corridor by using least-cost path method supported by ArcGIS spatial analysis module. The conclusion gives the planning scheme of biological corridor in Taicang city in order to achieve the best connection between habitat plaques for the purpose of animal protection.
