DISCUSSIONS OF CONTACT PRESSURE OF A RIGID CIRCULAR FOUNDATION

MR. HOLMBERG NOTES THE INDICATION THAT CONTACT PRESSURE WITH GOOD APPROXIMATION VARIES LINEARLY FROM ZERO AT THE EDGE. HE FEELS IT SHOULD BE OF GREAT VALUE TO HAVE APPLIED LOADS GIVEN IN FRACTIONS OF ULTIMATE LOAD, AND THE PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION FOR THE HIGHEST VALUES AS WELL. MR. POPE QUESTIONS THE ACCURACY OF THE RESULTS PRESENTED ON PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS IN SANDS. HE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE COMPUTER WHICH DETERMINED THE VOLUME UNDER THE PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION SURFACE AS A COMPARISON WITH THE EXTERNALLY APPLIED LOAD.
