Application of Concrete-Cored DCM Pile in Soft Ground Treatment of Highway Bridgehead

Concrete-cored deep cement mixing (DCM) pile was introduced to reinforce soft ground of highway bridgehead. It is composed of an inner precast concrete pile and an external DCM pile socket, where the high strength concrete pile is designed to bear loads, and DCM pile socket acts to transfer axial force into the surrounding soils by skin frictions. The results obtained from the static load tests and settlement observations show that the bearing capacity and settlement of concrete-cored DCM pile can meet the engineering needs well, which is better than ordinary cement mixing pile. From axial force-depth curves of inner concrete pile and load-settlement curves, concrete-cored DCM pile composite foundation has the characteristics of rigid pile, and the low pile-soil stress ratio also indicates its characteristics of flexible pile. Therefore, concrete-cored DCM pile is a rigid-flexible transition pile and suitable for the soft ground treatment at bridgehead to lessen the phenomenon of vehicle bump.
