BEHAVIOUR OF BOGIES ON CURVES

Research study was conducted to reduce derailments and excessive rail wear curves. The research work described was concerned with the conventional three piece freight car truck, which consists of a pair of side frames and a bolster, the suspension being by springs between each end of the bolster and side frames. The results can be applied equally well to the primary suspension truck, where the frame is in one piece and H-shaped, with suspension by springs between the frame and the bearings on the ends of the axles. The advantages of a radial truck are given and a prototype truck is described.
