MECHANIZED DRILL RIGS FOR TUNNELING

TAMPELLA-TAMROCK HAS SPECIALIZED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DRILLING EQUIPMENT AND HAS PRODUCED MECHANIZED ASSEMBLIES WHICH INCORPORATED MANY AUTOMATIC FEATURES. FOR EXAMPLE, THE ALIGNMENT OF FEED, THE STOPPING AND RETURN OF THE ROCK DRILL AND THE BOWING OUT OF THE HOLE ARE ALL DONE AUTOMATICALLY. WITH A THREE-BOOM AUTOMATIC JUMBO OPERATED BY ONE MAN, DRILLING RATES HAVE REACHED 120 METERS PER HOUR (400 FT/H) IN GRANITE. AS A RESULT OF MECHANIZATION, DRILLING WORK IS MANUALLY LIGHTER AND SAFER, PRECISION IS BETTER, CAPACITY PER MAN SHIFT IS HIGHER AND CONSEQUENTLY COSTS ARE LOWER. MECHANIZATION HAS OPENED UP NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR TUNNELLING. THE USE OF INTEGRAL STEELS AND SMALL HOLES HAS REDUCED THE CONSUMPTION OF EXPLOSIVES. CONTROLLED BLASTING HAS BECOME MORE ECONOMICAL. OVERBREAK IS CONSEQUENTLY REDUCED AND THE TOTAL COST OF TUNNELS DECREASED. /RRL(A)/
