An Objective Evaluation Approach of the Traffic Safety Situation in Beijing

Considering the drawbacks of some generally used approaches of road traffic safety evaluation, this paper suggests a purely objective comprehensive evaluation model. Firstly, a weight determination model, based on separate hierarchy process, is proposed. Combining with the fuzzy evaluation method, a comprehensive model is formed. Then, some quantitative indexes which can represent road traffic safety condition objectively have been chosen. These quantitative indexes, including the accident rate per ten thousand in vehicles, the death rate per ten thousand in vehicles, mainly describe the number and the severity degree of traffic accidents. Finally, a comprehensive evaluation of the road traffic safety condition in Beijing is given. Results show that the new model has good maneuverability and adaptability.
