THE DOMINANT PERIOD OF MICROTREMORS AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE INVESTIGATION OF LANDSLIDE

THE SHAPE OF THE PERIOD-DISTRIBUTION CURVE OF MICROTREMORS IS SPECIFIC TO THE TYPE OF SUBSOIL. ON THIS BASIS, THE AUTHOR ATTEMPTS TO DETERMINE THE GROUND STRUCTURE BY MEANS OF THE DOMINANT PERIODS OF MICROTREMORS. THE DOMINANT PERIODS CAN BE EXPLAINED BY THE QUARTER WAVE-LENGTH LAW, APPLICABLE TO THE HIGH-FREQUENCY PERIODS OF THE SURFACE WAVE. MICROTREMOR MEASUREMENT CAN BE UTILIZED IN INVESTIGATING LANDSLIDE AREAS. SUCH INVESTIGATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT IN TWO TYPICAL AREAS, SHOWING CONCLUSIVELY THAT THE METHOD PERMITS DETERMINATION OF THE SUBSOIL STRUCTURE, ESPECIALLY IF COMBINED WITH SEISMIC EXPLORATION.
