NEW METHODS IN THE APPLICATION OF SEISMIC TECHNIQUES TO THE DETERMINATION OF ROCK AND SOIL PROPERTIES

NEW SIMPLE METHODS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED FOR THE GENERATION AND SEPARATE RECORDING OF TWO TYPES OF BODY WAVES - COMPRESSIONAL AND SHEAR. SEPARATION OF THE TYPES PERMITS THE DETERMINATION OF THE DYNAMIC MODULI OF ELASTICITY INSITU, AS FUNCTION OF DEPTH. RESULTS PRESENTED SHOW HOW THE DATA CAN BE USED TO DETERMINE VARIOUS PROPERTIES OF ROCKS AND SOIL INSITU; THIS IS USEFUL IN PREDICTING THE ENGINEERING GEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MEDIUM.
