Transportation and Sustainable Development

The transportation is a subsystem of the social economy, and its development is an important component of social economy sustainable development. For the sustainable development of transportation, one should not only consider its own economic result, but also fully concern the outside positive and negative effects of the transportation. On one hand, the transportation has promoted the economic development and the progress of the society; while on the other hand it has also brought a lot of negative effects. The existing problems in the respects of resources consuming (the land, energy), air pollution, noise, traffic jam, traffic accident, etc. are the key to realize the sustainable development of the transportation. The paper introduces the experience of European Union considering and developing the sustainable transportation in an all-round synthetic view from the economy, society, ecology, and also puts forward the countermeasure to realize the sustainable development of the transportation in the respects such as industrial policy, environmental protection, the traffic administration in the city, etc. respectively.
