STRESS AND DISPLACEMENT FIELDS IN VISCOELASTIC SOIL MEDIA

THE SOLUTION OF STRESS-DEFORMATION PROBLEMS IN SOIL MECHANICS FOR TIME-DEPENDENT STRESS-STRAIN BEHAVIOR IS DEMONSTRATED. THE ELASTIC-VISCOELASTIC ANALOGY IS DERIVED, AND THE SOLUTION FOR A TIME-DEPENDENT STRESS PROBLEM IS GIVEN AS AN EXAMPLE. THE ASSUMPTIONS UNDERLYING THE ANALOGY REQUIRE THAT SUPERPOSITION MUST BE POSSIBLE AND VOLUMETRIC STRAINS MUST NOT BE COUPLED TO DEVIATORIC STRESS COMPONENTS.
