Service-State Monitoring System Field Test for Tunnel Preventive Maintenance

The state of the tunnel during operation is an important warranty to implement tunnel preventive maintenance, and is a common question to the manager and user of the tunnel. Service-state monitoring (SSM) is the significant component of tunnel maintenance, and is the key means to acquire the status character of the tunnel. In fact, for the demands of tunnel maintenance, some countries have built monitoring systems for long-time monitoring based on the concept of structural health monitoring. But there is no necessary technical guidance. In this article, the tunnel service state monitoring system built in a tunnel, which is one of the longest and deepest road tunnels among the built and under-construction tunnels in the west area of China, is introduced, and the procedure of building a tunnel maintenance system by exploiting the information obtained from service state monitoring is researched. Although such systems are in the beginning of their development, it is significant to understand maintenance and maintenance strategies of tunnel structures systematically.
