Impact of Central European Traffic Corridor on the Traffic Prosperity of Croatia

Utjecaj Srednjoeuropskoga prometnoga koridora na prometni prosperitet Republike Hrvatske

The necessity for linking the Baltic and the Adriatic resulted in the proposal for the formation of the Central European Transport Corridor – CETC whose aim is to realize the shortest and the fastest intermodal transport corridor for connecting the North and the South of Europe. This is a very important initiative which should greatly contribute to the traffic and economic development of the regions along the corridor, including the Republic of Croatia. In this context, the main goal of the research presented in this paper is to analyze the motives and the necessity for the formation of CETC initiative, the relevant geo-transport features of CETC as an intermodal corridor, infrastructure requirements for better integration of the Republic of Croatia along the corridor and the impact of the corridor on the traffic and economic prosperity on the Republic of Croatia and the European environment.
