Testing and Certification of WIM System

New high-end applications for weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems have increased the need for system performance assessment, testing and certification norms. In this paper, the authors present results of extensive WIM systems' tests, designed to assess sensor and system performance according to different international norms and to evaluate differences between norms as a basis for new certification procedures. The tests, which were based on Lineas quartz sensors, were performed in both a climatic chamber and on the road. The Swiss Federal Office of Metrology (METAS) performed the tests according to OIML R134 specifications, and methods including COST323, ASTM E-1318 and YONA were used to analyze the results.
