V2I Communication System using In-vehicle Obstacle Detection Sensors
This paper investigates the Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communication system. This allows vehicles with a V2I communication unit to transmit both their own positional information and that of other vehicles obtained via in-vehicle obstacle sensors (forward and rear obstacle detection sensors) to infrastructure equipment. The authors model a V2I communication system and implement it in a microscopic traffic simulation of an intersection. Using this model, the information acquisition ratio of the infrastructure with respect to the system penetration ratio of the on-board communication unit is evaluated. Moreover, the influence of the positioning error of a vehicle on the precision of the vehicular positioning estimation is evaluated.
