Standardization of Weigh-in-Motion in Europe

In this paper, the authors review recent developments in Europe's weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems, highlighting the Forum of European Highway Research Laboratory's FiWi project initiative. FiWi project members wrote and submitted an updated version of the COST323 specification (the pre-standard to WIM systems for the last 10 years) to the European Committee on Standardization (CEN). This paper also describes the requirements needed to develop a complementary standard in order to address the direct enforcement of WIM.
