The Resilient Road: A Roadmap for Research
The Forever Open Road Programme is the Forum of European Highway Research Laboratories' (FEHRL's) program focused on developing and maintaining the roads of the 21st century. The Programme has developed a roadmap for research for three elements of these future roads: the adaptable road, the automated road, and the resilient road. In this document the focus is on resilience to extreme weather conditions. In the first part of the document, climate change and its effect on roads and infrastructure is discussed. Research and innovation themes and topics are then outlined. Milestones for the years 2015 and beyond and a list of national programs are also included.
