A Novel Evaluation Methodology for Combined Performance of Warning and Braking in Crash Imminent Braking Systems
Many auto manufactures equip their high-end passenger vehicles with crash imminent braking (CIB) systems. The features and performance of various CIB systems differ significantly, due to the complex nature of the CIB technology. There are no standards, to date, to evaluate and compare the comprehensive performance of different CIB systems. A systematic methodology for the evaluation of CIB systems which include both warning and braking features is described in this paper. The percentage kinetic energy reduction is a measure used in the performance evaluation. In order to validate the proposed methodology, the information collected from some ongoing vehicle active safety testing projects will be used.
