THE MEASUREMENT OF RESIDUAL STRENGTH IN TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION

THE TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION OF SOIL SAMPLES WITH PREFORMED SHEAR PLANES INVOLVES DIFFICULTIES IN THE ESTIMATION OF THE EFFECTS OF THE CHANGE IN THE CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA AND THE RESTRAINT OF THE RUBBER MEMBRANE. CORRECTIONS FOR THESE TWO EFFECTS ARE DEVELOPED AND ARE SHOWN TO GIVE ACCEPTABLE STRESS-STRAIN CURVES, ENABLING MULTI-STAGE TESTS TO BE USED. /RRL/A/
