Ensuring a Safer Future for the Aviation Industry

This article describes large-scale fire tests that were conducted to evaluate compressed air foam systems (CAFS) in comparison with normal aspirated foam. The tests also evaluated the effectiveness of new generation fluorine-free firefighting foams that eliminate the problem posed by current aqueous film-forming foams of environmental persistence. The test results indicate that CAFS outperforms aspirate foam in extinguishing fires. However, environmental influences and tactics also have significant impacts on extinguishment time.
