Collaboration is the key

This article focuses on the importance of collaboration in the rail station design and build life cycle. Highlighted is the London Bridge station redevelopment project, which involves the demolition and reconstruction of the London Bridge Station (LBS) to create a street level concourse with retail shops and covered platforms. The project relies on the collaborative engagement of its design partners and project architects to deliver the project for Network Rail. One of the most complex signaling schemes in the UK and Northern Europe will be executed to completely reconfigure the station's track layout and increase through station capacity. The article describes the project's challenges to ensure safety and operational performance within the station during the redevelopment and the integrated design management approach that guides the project. The authors emphasize the importance of communication in such a complex project, and they suggest that successful collaboration has been at the heart of ensuring that the project designs have been delivered on time and to specifications.
