EUROPE'S TALLEST BUILDING ENCASES AN OPERATING SUBWAY
A 656-ft-high office tower in Paris, France rises on a foundation built over, around and under a subway that continued operating during excavation and foundation casting. The work was done without underpinning, though the excavation went below the tips of the piles supporting the subway. The construction techniques are described.
