High-capacity artery at the heart of a busy network
The New Line Kobenhavn - Ringsted in Denmark will be the country's first route designed for operation at up to 250 km/h. It will duplicate an overcrowded section of Banedanmark's core east-west main line and will serve the future Fehmarn Belt fixed link. The double-track electrified route will double the capacity for passenger and freight services on this line which connects the Danish capital (Copenhagen) with the rest of the country. Infrastructure strategy, capacity issues, European standards, integration issues, construction management, keeping the public informed, and issues of connectivity are all discussed in this article.
