ACTUAL DERAILMENT TEST ON THE KARIKACHI TEST TRACK
To prove the causes of derailments and prevent such disasters, the JNR set up a derailment technical research committee, and this committee conducted unprecedented derailment tests by using a real freight train on an abolished line in Hokkaido. The paper describes the tests and their results in outline, with emphasis on the track rather than the train.
