Summary of 3 Vehicle-to-Pole Side-Impact Crash Tests

The Federal Highway Administration, in cooperation with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), conducted crash tests in which a vehicle was propelled sideway at approximately 20 mph in a fixed pole in order to evaluate the effectiveness on side air bags. Additional tests of late model year vehicles were recently conducted by NHTSA. This compilation presents findings from three of these tests: a 2013 Honda Accord EX, a 2013 Toyota Avalon XLE and a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse showed significantly less crush than did vehicles in the earlier tests.
