Rio’s Transoeste: Brazil’s Romance with BRT Rekindled
A world-class bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor recently opened in Rio de Janeiro. The BRT corridor covers 40 km and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The express BRT service allows what was a 2.5 hour journey on traditional bus service to be completed in less than an hour. This BRT is one part of a series of improvements being put into place in anticipation of Rio’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016.
